Teaching

I am a dedicated and versatile teacher. I developed and taught the following courses while in graduate school. I am happy to provide syllabi on request.

  • Social Problems
  • Sociology of the Family
  • Gender in Everyday Life
  • Criminology
  • Conformity and Deviance

My proudest teaching accomplishment to date was winning the university-wide Distinguished Teaching Award at UMass Amherst in 2018.

A note on my teaching philosophy:

I believe students learn the most when they can see why it matters. I am thrilled if they walk away from my courses able to critically examine things others take for granted, gather credible information on a given topic, and present that information in a way that is accessible and persuasive.
